Welcome!

Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a

Our next monthly talk is on Thursday 13th August when Simon Keable-Elliott presents 1920s Tahitil. For the past few years, Simon has been researching the writers and artists who moved to Tahiti and his new book Guys like Gaughin comes out in August. In his talk, Simon first explores how Tahiti developed its reputation as a paradise island and attracted famous writers and artists like Herman Melville, W. Somerset Maugham and, of course, Gaughin. He then looks at the early 1920s Tahiti and South Pacific 'craze' as seen through books and movies before discussing some of the English and American writers who made their home on the island.

The venue for this talk is the Broadway Baptist Church, which is wheelchair-accessible and equipped with a hearing loop, and the meeting starts at 2pm

If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a Monthly Talk and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.

Best wishes
