Activities

The patchwork and quilting group meets every first and third Wednesday morning in members’ houses. The usual venue is the home of the convenor in Hyde Heath.

The group started in November 2008 and most members have spent the first year making a sampler quilt. Whilst the last few are being finished members have been pursuing their own individual projects. These are brought to show others at the meeting and advice is sought and willingly given. Workshops have been held in late 2009 and early 2010 on the topics of Stained Glass Appliqué, making a bag for our cutting boards and rulers and  ‘Funky Chickens’ (appliqué). A further workshop on Slashed 9-patch is planned for June. We entertained a visitor in April who spoke to us about hand appliqué and a further visitor is booked for July”.

To fit within members houses it is with regret that we have had to close our membership in August 2009. The convenor is starting to collect names on a waiting list. There is already a request to start a group on another day so if there are more people out there looking for an alternative meeting time please get in touch. The groups co-ordinator and members of the existing P&Q group would be happy to help another group get started.  No previous knowledge of patchwork and quilting is needed but basic sewing skills (ideally including possession of and familiarity with a sewing machine) are an advantage.
